Electrical Controls Engineer

Position Summary:  The Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing industrial automation, product development, and manufacturing and application support.  This position supports both electrical controls related R&D product development as well as operations/production needs.

 

 

  1. Description of Essential Job Functions:
  1. R&D Support
  1. Research and develop products using gateway process for new and continuous product development.
  2. Coordinate information between departments, including engineering, sales, purchasing, production, and technical support.
  3. Establish the baseline budget and schedule for the project.
  4. Analyze project problems and recommend corrective action that has the least impact to cost and schedule.
  5. Troubleshoot, support, maintain and design production electrical testing area.
  6. Design custom control circuits for special customer requirements.
  7. Maintain and document information related to product use, costs, and operational implementation for all phases of product design and rollout related to new and current product in electrical, operational, and cost capacity.
  8. Establish rollout plans and implement with operations team.
  9. Prepare and present presentations both for internal and external uses.

 

  1. Operations Support
  1. Independently manage all aspects of assigned projects.
  2. Develop, maintain, and support panel designs for both standard, custom, and master/combo panels including schematic drawings, bills of material and wiring tables.
  3. Develop electrical component programs.
  4. Interface with internal teams, customers, and/or distributors to explain product functionality and troubleshooting techniques for operation and maintenance of 4Front equipment/products.
  5. Troubleshoot both remotely and on site when issues arise with product.
  6. Troubleshoot, support, maintain, and design production electrical testing area.
  7. Look for opportunities to take cost out of project and improve overall quality and competitiveness.
  8. Develop manuals with the aid of entire staff specifically around electrical installation and troubleshooting.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Technology.
  • 5-7 years of engineering experience, preferably in product design with a strong background within a manufacturing environment.
  • 1-3 years of knowledge/experience with VFD drives, PLCs, and industrial controls.
  • Experience managing multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Advanced/Intermediate experience with industry drafting and CAD standards.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and Auto LISP preferred.
  • Experience in product design, GD&T using CAD tools, and DFMEA preferred.
  • Significant “hands on the product” type experience with ability to recognize problems, predict potential outcomes, and implement countermeasures quickly enough to avoid problems.

  • Requires independent judgment and discretion with project framework for planning, organization, control, integration and completion of projects and company objectives.
  • General understanding and working knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, sewing, and welding equipment and tooling including design, gauges, equipment design, automation, robotics, or manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of material types specifications and characteristics used in dock levelers, dock seals & shelters, impactable dock doors, high speed and high-performance doors, and other entrance automation products and warehouse solutions.
  • Thorough understanding of company product, trade terminology, quality management and control systems and techniques, manufacturing processes including material controls, workflow, scheduling, just-in-time/pull system, machine operation, and company policies as standards.

Other Qualifications, Experience, or Requirements:

  • Limited business travel in the field for project implementation, training, field testing, and/or customer support.
  • Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle while carefully observing all traffic rules and regulations.
  • Requires the ability to use a variety of office/production related equipment such as a telephone, photocopier, facsimile machine, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Work beyond the traditional 40 hours per week may be required as workload or projects dictate, including weekends and holidays.
