Electrical Hardware Engineering Intern

As a Hardware Electrical Engineering Intern, you will support the Access Egress Hardware Team by assisting with laboratory operations, electronics assembly, testing, and equipment maintenance. Working closely with experienced engineers, you’ll engage in practical projects that span building prototypes, conducting experiments, and collecting data—all geared toward advancing our hardware solutions.
This position will sit onsite full-time in New Haven, CT at ASSA ABLOY Americas corporate headquarters and will report to the Hardware Electrical Engineering Manager.
What you will be doing
Hardware Assembly & Testing
- Assist in the assembly, configuration, and testing of electronic components and prototypes.
- Set up and maintain hardware platforms used in product development and lab experiments.
Technical Support & Experimentation
- Collaborate with the engineering team on experiment setups, troubleshooting, and hardware validation.
- Document test procedures, measurement results, and experimental observations to support design improvements.
- Handle and rework electronic assemblies, including SMT soldering, wiring, and harnessing, while following best
- practices for safety and precision.
- Prepare regular reports on project progress, testing outcomes, and equipment readiness for review by the
- engineering team.
What we are looking for
- Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of electronics assembly, including reading schematics and assembly drawings.
- Familiarity with electronic measurement tools (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes) and hands-on skills in SMT soldering
- and wiring.
- A strong interest in practical electronics and hardware.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and close attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, eager to learn from experienced mentors.
